About SITRAER 

The Air Transport Symposium (SITRAER) is an annual event organized by the Brazilian Air Transport Research Society (SBTA). Throughout its 20 editions, the symposium has facilitated significant scientific contributions, fostering an ongoing dialogue between education, research, and advancing social, technological, economic, and environmental aspects within the air transport domain.

In the 2024 edition, the XXI SITRAER included scientific papers in the following thematic areas:

• Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM);
• Aeronautics Infrastructure;
• Air Traffic Management;
• Airlines Operations;
• Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in Air Transport.

The 2024 Venue

Fortaleza, the largest urban center in the state of Ceará, located in northeastern Brazil, is a dynamic hub for industrial and technological development. The city's economic performance has demonstrated remarkable growth trajectories in recent years, reflected in its increasing Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the expansion of its air transport and cargo logistics sectors. In 2023, Ceará's GDP exhibited a growth rate of 2.42%, with projections indicating a 2.31% increase for 2024, outperforming the national growth estimate of 1.78%.

In the air transport sector, passenger throughput in 2023 reached 5.56 million individuals, while cargo volumes amounted to 62.7 thousand tons, signifying a 55.5% year-over-year increase. Concurrently, the region recorded 53,199 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings) during the same period.

The Port of Pecém constitutes a critical component of Ceará's economic infrastructure. In 2023, the port processed 482,930 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) of containers, reflecting a 16% growth, alongside a total cargo volume of 17.39 million tons. The first quarter of 2024 alone reported a cargo handling volume of 4.4 million tons, representing an 18% year-over-year increase.

Fortaleza also boasts a robust academic ecosystem, hosting over 80,000 undergraduate students and 25,000 graduate students, supported by a scholarly community of 3,994 faculty members and researchers actively contributing to scientific and technological progress.
