The Organizing Committees cordially invites you to participate in the 16th Latin American Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry (CLAFQO-16), to be held in Florianópolis, Brazil, from November 04 - 08, 2024. CLAFQO-16 is the single most important Latin-American Conference for chemists active in physical organic chemistry and reactivity. Following the precedent set by previous conferences in the series, the scientific programme will consist of lectures presented by invited speakers, oral communications and poster sessions. We anticipate a highly stimulating in person conference, in the quiet and pleasant surroundings of Florianópolis, attended by scientists from both Hemispheres.
The present Conference will focus on the latest important advances in the field, and will offer further opportunities for the sort of high level discussions we have enjoyed over the forty two years since the First Conference in 1982.
We look forward to meet you in Florianópolis.
Sincerely,
Vanderlei G. Machado and Josiel B. Domingos Chair - CLAFQO-16

Tribute to Eduardo Lissi (1936-2024)
On November 5th, 2024, Eduardo Lissi died surrounded by his family in Santiago de
Chile. Eduardo was a very creative and knowledgeable chemist, who shaped the
field of chemical kinetics, radical chemistry and photochemistry in Latin
America. Together with Juan Grotewold (1935-2021), they started a Chemical
Kinetics research group at the School of Sciences (FCEN, University of Buenos
Aires) in 1963. Due to the violent intervention to the Universities by the
military in Argentina in 1966, almost the complete group moved to the Technical
State University in Santiago, Chile (today USACh) and started a wide variety of
research lines, collaborating with several groups in Latin-America (mostly
Argentina and Brazil), the USA and Europe. Grotewold returned in 1970 to
Argentina. Several of the initial members of the group (Neumann, Villa,
Braslavsky, Previtali, Scaiano) left to different Countries. Eduardo Lissi
remained in Chile and, over the years, together with Elsa Abuin (1942-2012) and
Maria Victoria Encinas, mentored several generations of Chilean kineticists and
photochemists, as well as Secondary school chemistry teachers. Eduardo Lissi
was the initiator of the meetings of the Latin-American photochemical community
with the first ELAFOT meeting in Santiago in 1982, where the original group met
again. The remarkable scientific production of Eduardo Lissi covers many areas.
More important, however, were his qualities as a wonderful human being. He was
very generous with his knowledge, extremely modest, as well as very faithful to
his high ethical principles, which led him to participate in caritative
activities.
The organizing committee of the 16th CLAFQO offers its condolences to family and friends.
