Quantum thermodynamics emerged from the need to study thermodynamic processes at the quantum realm, where effects such as entanglement and coherence play a crucial role. The field has seen rapid progress, extending far beyond its foundational roots. In the past decade, it has attracted the attention of experimentalists, who to put to test the thermodynamic laws reformulated for quantum mechanical processes, measure thermodynamic quantities such as work, heat, and entropy, verify fluctuation theorems, and even showcase quantum heat engines. Today, quantum thermodynamics is a cornerstone of quantum sciences, essential to the development of disruptive quantum technologies, from sensors to quantum computers.
QTD is an annual conference bringing together the quantum thermodynamics community to discuss the latest advances in the field, identify new research directions, and stimulate collaborations. Since its first edition in Berlin in 2013, the conference has been held in various locations worldwide, including Mallorca 2014, Porquerolles 2015, Erice 2016, Oxford 2017, Santa Barbara 2018, Espoo 2019, Barcelona 2020, online, Geneva 2021, online, Belfast 2022, online, Vienna 2023, Maryland 2024, and Singapore 2025. In 2026, the conference will be held in Latin America for the first time. The conference will be hosted by the International Institute of Physics(IIP-UFRN) in Natal, Brazil, running from the 10th to the 14th of August 2026.
